The partial hospitalization program (PHP) at Alvarado Parkway Institute is an intensive clinical treatment program that serves patients diagnosed with a mental illness or substance abuse disorder. Daily life can be challenging for individuals suffering from depression, bipolar disorder, psychosis, anxiety and addiction, and many require daily assistance in managing their symptoms. Our partial hospitalization program provides the daytime structure and support these patients need to live a balanced, healthy life.

What is Partial Hospitalization?

Partial hospitalization combines the intensity of inpatient treatment with the flexibility of outpatient care to help individuals struggling with a mental illness or substance abuse disorder. At Alvarado Parkway Institute, PHP is offered five days a week from 9:00am to 3:00pm. In the evenings, patients return home to be with family or friends and to practice the skills they’ve learned. As part of this structured programming, patients enrolled in PHP participate in individual and group therapy, psychiatric assessments, and stress management and relaxation training. Therapists also help patients prepare for life after the program.

Patients are typically referred to PHP when they are experiencing mild psychiatric symptoms that are challenging to deal with, yet don’t require around-the-clock care. The goal of our program is to prepare patients who suffer from mental illness or addiction with the skills they need to manage their lives in a safe and healthy way without excessive disruption to their daily routines.
