At Alvarado Parkway Institute, our Culture of Caring strives to provide a quality driven treatment program with diverse interventions that effectively address individual psychiatric needs and restores patients to their highest potential. Our 66 bed facility is divided into three distinct units designed to serve adults with varying levels of psychiatric illness and cognitive abilities.  Upon admission, individualized treatment concerns and level of functioning are assessed to determine which unit is most appropriate.  Treatment on all units is provided in the form of group therapy, individual therapy, daily meetings with psychiatrist, and social service interventions.

The Intensive Care Unit-North serves clients who present with the most acute psychiatric symptoms and would benefit from a well structured and secured environment.  These clients may have severe deficits in daily living skills, significant impairment in social skills, inability to care for themselves, limited cognitive abilities, and/or present as a potential danger to themselves or others.  Therapies are designed to stabilize debilitating effects of mental illness and address deficits in coping, socialization, concentration, impulse control, safe expression of feelings, and activities of daily living.   Patients are encouraged to participate in psychotherapy groups, individual therapy, and a diverse selection of adjunctive therapies such as: art therapy, music therapy, pet therapy, recreation therapy, and occupational therapy.  Spiritual Care is also available on an individual basis.

The Intensive Care Unit - South serves clients who present with acute psychiatric symptoms and/or concurrent physical impairment or developmental delay.  These clients may require assistance with activities of daily living and mobility.  Therapies are structured to address coping with symptoms of mental illness, active engagement in activities of daily living, safety, management of grief and loss associated with mental illness and/or the aging process, and cognitive skills training.  Patients are encouraged to participate in individual sessions, psychotherapy groups, and a diverse selection of adjunctive therapies such as art therapy, music therapy, recreation therapy, and occupational therapy.  Spiritual Care is also available on an individual basis.
