INPATIENT SERVICES

Inpatient Intensive Care:  Forty six inpatient beds are dedicated to treating adult patients who are acutely ill and require a well structured environment which emphasizes safety and stabilization.  Structured therapy interventions are offered on a daily basis.

Inpatient Acute Care:  Twenty inpatient beds are available for adult patients who require acute care and are able to tolerate intensive group and individual therapies.  The emphasis on this unit is symptom management and healthy coping.  Therapy interventions are offered at a high frequency to maximize patient outcomes.

As patients progress in their treatment, they often transition from the intensive care level to the acute level and are able to tolerate more in depth therapeutic interventions.  The goal of inpatient care is to stabilize patients to the degree that they can be discharged to a lower level of care or independent living.

Chemical Dependency/Inpatient Detoxification:  A team of dedicated physicians and Allied Health Professionals are available to provide inpatient services for adult patients suffering from addictive diseases.  Detoxification, intensive group therapy and aftercare planning are offered.  Hospital approved medication protocols are utilized to ensure safe detoxification.  Efforts are made to make the detoxification process as comfortable as possible.

Benefits of Inpatient Program:

  • Rapid stabilization
  • Intensive Medication Management
  • Multidisciplinary Treatment Team Approach
  • Intensive Case Management and Social Service Support

WHAT TO EXPECT
Therapeutic Interventions:  Alvarado Parkway Institute has a very rich and diverse treatment program designed to effectively target patient symptoms.  Inpatients are offered at least 4-6 groups per day including process groups, psycho-educational, medication education, cognitive skills, coping skills, symptom management, music therapy, art therapy and recreation therapy.  Additionally, individual and family sessions may be arranged to address specific clinical issues.  Psychological testing sessions are offered per physician order when indicated.

Groups are facilitated by mental health professionals including but not limited to licensed and/or registered therapists, certified alcohol and drug counselors, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, psychology interns, social workers and adjunctive therapists.

Multidisciplinary treatment team meetings are held on a weekly basis.  Patients are encouraged to participate in the treatment planning process and offer input and insight to progress being made.

Physician Interventions:  All inpatients are assessed by a Psychiatrist and Internal Medicine Physician and receive a comprehensive Psychiatric Evaluation and History and Physical within 24 hours of admission.  These evaluations form the foundation of the patient’s Mater Treatment Plan.  The Psychiatrist will meet with the patient daily throughout the hospitalization to assess the patient’s progress, collaborate with the patient and coordinate care and discharge planning with the multidisciplinary treatment team.

Social Services Interventions:  Alvarado Parkway Institute supports strong case management services to ensure patient needs are met effectively and to efficiently coordinate discharge plans and follow up care.  Each patient is assigned a Social Worker upon admission.  The Social Worker will conduct a comprehensive discharge planning assessment, facilitate communication between the psychiatrist and family, arrange family sessions if necessary and provide referrals for follow up care, support groups, community resources and counseling.  Social Service professionals also assist with discharge placement and may facilitate access to resources such as Medi-Cal, Social Security and State Disability.
